Representative Projects untaken
The Ottawa Club’s annual “Adventure in Citizenship” program is a notable success; we have sent a student every year since 1970. It is directed towards senior high school students. Schools in the area are invited to participate in a “speak-off”, the winner of which spends a week in the Nation’s capital in the company of 250 other students. They visit the House of Commons, the Senate and other national institutions. They meet government dignitaries and members of Parliament, seeing firsthand the workings of government. www.rotaryottawa.com/adventure.htm

We have purchased over $200,000 worth of equipment to date for the Central Newfoundland Hospital, e.g. a fibre optic gastro scope (1975), a dialysis machine (1978) and furnishing for the chemotherapy recovery lounge (1985). We sponsored the chartering of the Rotary Club of Gander (November 3, 1977).
We sent hospital beds and other equipment to a hospital in Haiti (mid 1980’s). We provided, with ERMA, a platform for viewing the scenic Grand Falls on the Exploit’s River (around 1998).
The neighbouring community of Badger was severely damaged by flooding in 2002. We, including the entire Rotary 7820 District, helped replace the community centre. We also provided a children’s playground in partnership with Ronald MacDonald. This year 2006-07:
- we are sponsoring an individual on the District 7820 GSE to Brazil;
- in conjunction with the Dr. Bliss Murphy cancer foundation paying for fit up of a treatment room in the new local cancer clinic;
- partnering with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor making a “Rotary” family park costing $100,000.
